This is a two chapter sampler from the book Breakfast at the Dixie Cafe. There are a total of 24 chapters in the book. This free book will fire your desire to buy and read the whole book. In the whole book you will meet a variety of characters who you may recognize from your work or perhaps home. There are the two guys known as "Drought" and "Depression" who foresee doom in every event. There is the poor soul with the worst kind of a curse where he believes that he has seen or done the biggest, best, most important of everything and cannot stop himself from telling you all about it. There is, of course, me who tries to convince his darling wife that he needs all of the gear possible for deer hunting and who tries with mixed results to plan the perfect wedding anniversary. There is the honeymooning couple who go frog gigging on their wedding night and the real estate agent who got her start by trading her husband for a mobile home and a couple of acres of land.
The book is what Mark Twain would have called "sketches of American Life." Not that I compare myself to Mark Twain except that I too may not publish my biography until 100 years after I die, but because I believe these stories do weave a pattern. Read individually, I hope you will find them to be enjoyable but when looked at as a whole, I believe they provide a point of view into American life. The same way individual blocks of cloth blend together to make a quilt.
Upon first glance, the reader might mistakenly think that I am making fun of Southerners. Nothing could be further from the truth.
