Description: The editors have developed a model with the aim and goal of improving healthcare. While healthcare models (of all sorts) are not unique, this one simplifies what can be a very complex issue. The graphic representation the authors chose to use, that of a triangle, is quite apt.
Purpose: The book seeks to illustrate a three-sided approach to healthcare and does it quite well. The "model links improved care outcomes, improved system performance, and improved professional development." The authors illustrate the three facets as a triangle, each drawing strength from (and supporting) the others. The genesis of the book came from one of the authors' residents.
Audience: It is targeted at professional practitioners and students entering healthcare.
Features: The book draws on a wide range of contributors, with very diverse backgrounds. This richness in experience leads to a very valuable offering on healthcare modeling. International examples, as well as corollary examples, are used to provide background and support for the authors' model.
Assessment: Providing a workable example of a functional healthcare model, this book uses a simple to understand approach that does not focus on previously used or correlated material (such as applying other models, i.e. Six Sigma, to healthcare).
