About the Author

A prominent citizen of San Francisco, Dr. Washington Dodge boarded the Titanic with his wife Ruth (nee Vidaver) and five-year-old son Washington Jr. Traveling First Class they held cabin A-34 and ticket #33638. They embarked Southampton that Wednesday of April 10th, 1912.
The city of San Francisco heard of the wreck by wire and concern was raised because at least a half-dozen citizens of the city were on the great ship, including the Dodge family.
It was then a surprise when on April 19th, Dr. Dodge telegraphed the editor of the San Francisco Bulletin, Fremont Older, that he and the family had been rescued and were safe. Dr. Dodge had been rescued in lifeboat 13 and returned to San Francisco to present this volume.
