About the Author

Bronx-born writer and artist Franco Aureliani has been drawing comics since he could hold a crayon. Currently residing in upstate New York with his wife, Ivette, and son, Nicolas, he spends most of his days in his Batcave-like studio where he produces DC's Tiny Titans comics. In 1995, Franco founded Blindwolf Studios, an independent art studio where he and fellow creators can create children's comics. Franco is the creator, artist and writer of Weirdsville, L'il  Creeps, and Eagle All Star, as well as the co-creator and writer of Patrick the Wolf  Boy. When he's not writing or drawing, Franco also teaches high school art.

Born in Chicago, Art Baltazar found his way early to comic book art and has been cartooning ever since he can recall, self-publishing in 1994 with such titles as The Cray-Baby Adventures, Gyro-Man, Captain Camel & the Space Chicken, Jimmy Dydo, Lunar Lizard, Meteor Mite and the famous Patrick the Wolf Boy. Art also created an autobiographical graphic novel called The Big Amoeba for Platinum Studios. He lives outside of Chicago with his wife, Rose, and their children Sonny, Gordon, and Audrey.

Gr 3–6-Thirteen-year-old Clark Kent thinks that saving people is fun and easy and that he wouldn't mind being a celebrity. His parents worry that showing off his talents will put him in danger, but sometimes Clark's abilities show up unintentionally. Like when he's thinking about Lana or enjoying banana cream pudding and he starts to float with happiness. This story combines ordinary events such as Clark starting middle school and making new friends with extraordinary ones, like Clark using his superpowers to perform amazing rescues and figure out who or what is causing chaos all over Smallville. This is a sweet, funny, upbeat superhero tale, enhanced by goofy and colorful illustrations. A Kryptonian key at the end of the book lets kids decode the messages in the book. VERDICT A fun introduction to Superman for superhero fans, newcomers, and reluctant readers.-Andrea Lipinski, New York Public Library

Clark Kent gets his start saving the day.

Thirteen-year-old farm boy Clark Kent has always shown hints of his special abilities: strength, flight, speed, and an innate sense of right and wrong. Clark uses them to patrol his hometown of Smallville to help those in need, flying off before anyone can get a good look at him. The townsfolk are all abuzz: Who is Superman? Clark is delighted to be helping people, but his parents want him to keep his powers under wraps. Clark juggles his powers, his chores, and his schooling in this brightly colored graphic novel. Longtime fans of the last son of Krypton will be a bit bored by the proceedings (10 seasons of the Smallville TV show covered similar territory quite effectively), but newcomers will find plenty to enjoy. The action is smartly rendered and the humor is good natured. Other characters from the Superman comics and mythos make appearances here, all of them presented with respect to all the history that comes with them. With a long-running property like Superman, it may be daunting for some looking for an entry point, particularly for younger readers. This is a good one.
