Overview

The invasion of the Dorians ushered in a new age of Greek civilization. The Dorians were an Indo-European people, nomads and warriors, who spoke Greek. With his arrival, the so-called "Dark Age" of Greek history begins. Homer is the only relevant figure from this period; However, in this stage the Polis, a distinctive form of political organization of the following age, classical Greece, will be born. The Dark Age is dominated by mythical thought, linked to tales of sovereignty, according to which the "divine king" is the creator of both the social and natural order. In the classical age, when the mythical story is left behind, nature considered in itself appears as a problem. The first scientists, the Ionic physicists, Thales, Anaximander, Anaximenes, endowed the mythical representations in a secular, non-religious way. To work on these issues we have summarized the essentials of "On the crisis of mythical thought and the process of secularization", by Edith Elorza.
