Overview

Everything you always wanted to know about implementing and optimizing an ERP system in one place!

Enterprise resource planning software is key to improving many companies' productivity, but the complexity of installing and fine-tuning ERP systems can be intimidating.

Many companies find installing and optimizing the software to be a grueling process that costs significant time and money, but it doesn't have to be this way. In Successfully Implementing ERP, industry guru Sylvain LaFond, a veteran of numerous implementations, provides tips for effectively integrating ERP into your company's operations.

LaFond guides readers through the entire process of implementing an ERP system from planning to execution to optimization. In doing so, he explains each step of the implementation process in clear, easy to understand prose without burying readers in jargon or irrelevant minutiae.

In Successfully Implementing ERP, you will learn:
  • How to evaluate the business case for ERP and select the tool best suited for your organization
  • What to consider in the project planning process including identifying objectives and defining a budget
  • Key considerations for effective project management during the execution phase including budget control, customization, change management and communication processes
  • How to optimize product delivery including training, the going live process, performance tuning, application security and disaster recovery
  • The role of automation in optimizing ERP from the standpoint of workflows, warehouse management systems, electronic data exchange and more
  • How to take into account manufacturing considerations such as process vs. discrete manufacturing, production planning challenges and the Internet of Things (IoT)
  • How to incorporate digital advances including big data and AI, business intelligence and blockchain in an ERP implementation

In this new and improved second edition of the book, LaFond includes additional anecdotes that humanize the process of ERP implantation and add greater context to the points he makes. Executives considering or planning to install an ERP system can benefit from the clearly delineated guidelines for smoothly integrating ERP into a company's IT system the book provides.

LaFond's extensive knowledge of all things ERP makes the book a treasure vault of useful tips and suggestions for anyone looking to install ERP or optimize an existing installation.

The book's cogent suggestions for ERP implementation best practices can help companies overcome the many challenges and delays that often plague the process. Get Successfully Implementing ERP today to help boost your organization's chances of experiencing a trouble-free ERP implementation.

About the Author

Sylvain Lafond is the founder and leader of Vokeso Inc, a Microsoft Value Added Reseller based in Montreal. The company has grown from four people in 2013, the year Vokeso became a Microsoft partner, to nearly 20 today. He and his team have the enviable record of never failing to deliver a project. Sylvain has been navigating the ERP industry for nearly thirty years. He has gained valuable experience and insight while participating in a multitude of projects and deployments, serving his customers in various technical and functional roles.
These varied contributions, coupled with an international career, have provided a rich background from which examples could be drawn to write the book Successfully Implementing ERP. A firm believer in the Servant Leadership management style, Sylvain helps his team nurture strong relationships with customers, and the book is an extension of that caring philosophy.
Over the course of his career, Sylvain has faced many challenges, often in difficult contexts, and generally result-oriented. In addition to working as a teacher at Herzing Institute, these included many participations in ERP implementation projects, with his first as a freelancer at Protech Chemicals Ltd where the stakes were high for him as well as the organization.
His multiple interventions in the ERP industry provided him with a number of opportunities in the sector. Mandates as a database administrator, programmer-analyst, various technological missions, and responsibilities as a manufacturing, distribution or financial analyst are all good examples.
His numerous roles allowed Sylvain to work with a wide variety of people, from higher management to plant employees, in French and in English, with small or large teams. He was twice retained as an expert witness in litigations between a MSFT partner and one of their customers. Once for the partner, the other time for the customer. Sylvain worked in the U.S. for most of the 2000s and also has spent time working in the Bahamas and Belgium when he was a ROSS consultant.
At VOKESO, Sylvain currently focuses on Microsoft Dynamics Business Central and Aptean's ROSS ERP solutions. As CEO, his focus is on mentoring, managing the business and doing pre-sales. He is a graduate of UQAM, the Université du Québec à Montréal.
