The 23rd installment of Kenyon’s paranormal Dark-Hunter series is epic in scope, but Fred Berman does a remarkable job keeping the characters distinct, the plot engrossing, and the tension high. Styxx, has been living in exile for centuries, but when an ancient evil rises, he must find a way to put aside the abuse and pain of his past to fight for his brother—and his own redemption. Though the book is not for the faint of heart, Berman handles each wrenching scene with quiet sympathy and understanding, keeping this story emotionally relevant and moving. His nuanced performance provides an element of innocence to Styxx’s tortured character that highlights his heart rather than his many scars, ensuring that his journey is one fans will not soon forget.
