Stylistic Analysis of Chinua Achebe's Fictional Works
Chinua Achebe is the major exponent of the modern African novel. He has Created a new form of English with African colour to suit the narration and the characters involved in action. In order to do so, he has used African words and Concepts that have been rendered into English without losing their f1exibility, as noticed in the oracular utterances of the Igbo people. Many have worked on Achebe's fictional works, but a stylistic analysis of his fictional works is really a new and a dynamic study. The present book has specified the objective of studying Achebe as a Post-colonial writer, making his language as the base of the study. The book has attempted to describe the language of Achebe, highlighting the lexical, contextual and grammatical styles, which are deviative in nature and hence post-colonial. It has shown how Achebe has been successful in conveying the universal appeal which inherently lies in his works. Various concepts of style and various approaches to it have been rightfully described and discussed. Various stylistic theories and perspectives have been outlined. A context is also specified by revealing the colonial encounters and the English language and particularly the strategies employed by Achebe have also been revealed. The book has made an attempt to analyse the linguistic devices used by the Igbo community in Achebe novels. The Pidgin variety used by this community is also discussed and described. The book is of immense help for the readers, students, teachers and research scholars. It will surely find a warm reception in the hands of the readers and the research scholars.

About the Author

Dr. Bharati Khairnar is Head, Department of English, M.S.G., College, Malegaon Camp, Dist. Nashik, Maharashtra. She took her M.A. degree in English from Pune University. She obtained her Ph.D. in English from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad. She has been teaching English language and literature to both the undergraduate and postgraduate classes since 1992. She is actively engaged in guiding research scholars. Her area of interest are Linguistics, Stylistics, Commonwealth Literature, Indian Literature in English. She has presented a good number of research papers in state, national and international seminars, conferences and workshops. She has published a number of research articles in various journals of national and international repute. She had contributed a good number of research articles to anthologies. She has completed a Minor Research Project accorded by the BCUD Pune University. She was conferred Mahakavi Vamandada Kardak State Level Award (2009) by Milind Sanstha, Nashik. She is the member of the Board of Studies in English and also the Faculty of Arts, Fine Arts and Performing Arts in Pune University.
