Overview

Description of Strong's Classic Work

Strong's dictionary of Biblical Greek, like his concordance and dictionary of Biblical Hebrew, is a classic reference work for biblical studies and is accessible to the layperson. Each word in Biblical Greek is presented in Greek and in transliteration and is accompanied by a pronunciation guide. Each word is numbered and defined, and the translation(s) of that word in the Authorized English Version are presented. Strong's work was originally published in 1890 under the title A Concise Dictionary of the Words in the Greek New Testament; with their Renderings in the Authorized English Version. It was bound together with Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible.

Beautiful Greek Font in This E-Book

This digital edition of Strong's classic work is distinctive in not only presenting the Greek in Greek script but doing so using an aesthetically pleasing Greek font that looks great on the Nook. It also presents the transliteration in a font specially designed to render diacritics beautifully.

Advanced Navigation Features in This E-Book

This digital edition of Strong's Greek Dictionary recognizes that you do not generally read dictionaries linearly. As a result, there are several options provided for powerful and rapid navigation. Note that navigation details might be different in the various Nook applications for platforms other than the Nook itself.

First, the Table of Contents provides hyperlinks to each letter of the dictionary along with the range of Strong's numbers for that letter. Clicking on a link to a letter provides a list of options for the first two letters of the word as well as the range of Strong's numbers for that letter combination.

Second, this e-book is designed for the Nook to allow you to select your desired letter of the alphabet, along with its corresponding Strong's numbers, via its navigational features. The details vary based on the model of Nook. Once you have clicked on a link to a letter, you are provided a list of options for the first two letters of the word as well as the range of Strong's numbers for that letter combination.

Third, you can navigate directly to a particular entry by searching for that entry by Strong's number with "g" for "Greek" prepended to it. For example, to navigate to the entry for Strong's #1234, simply type "g1234" in the Find box. This will take you to the page on which Strong's #1234 appears. Note, however, that as of the time of the writing of this document, some Nook models only search forward from your present location in the book. Thus, you may need to navigate first to a location before your desired location. It can take some time for the Nook to index your new books, so allow 24 hours before using this option. Moreover, search is slow on some Nook models. If that is the case for your Nook model, we recommend using the other methods of navigation.

Fourth, you can navigate directly to a particular entry by searching for that entry using the transliteration scheme used in the book, leaving off any diacritics and using all lower-case. For example, to navigate to the entry for Strong's #124, Aígyptos, simply type "aigyptos" in the Find box. This will take you to the page on which this entry appears. It is possible that this string will appear elsewhere in the book as well, so if you want to be sure that the search will only find the entry for which you are looking, prepend and append the $ character. That is, type "$aigyptos$" in the Find box. Note, however, that as of the time of this writing, some Nook models only search forward from your present location in the book. Thus, you may need to navigate first to a location before your desired location. It can take some time for the Nook to index your new books, so allow 24 hours before using this option. Moreover, search is slow on some Nook models. If that is the case for your Nook model, we recommend using the other methods of navigation.
