Stop Domestic Violence is a training manual for professionals, lay persons, and victims of family abuse in handling domestic abuse cases. The text covers the behavior of victims and perpetrators of domestic violence, interviewing victims and making records of abuse, restraining orders, arrest and prosecution of abusers, attempts to change abusive behavior, family abuse situations which can result in the death of an abuse victim or abuser, and networking among professionals such as police, prosecutors, clergy, social service agencies, press, educators, judges and others to resolve family violence situations. It also discusses trauma informed care, PTSD, the Stockholm Syndrome, battering and its effects, and the Battered Woman Syndrome. Safety planning is also detailed. My books aim to prevent violence.

I enjoy working with people and using my abilities as an author, consultant, researcher, formerly practicing attorney, and public speaker to help people and groups solve problems and to promote social justice and participation in the community and the arts. I am obtaining a grad degree (an M.A. in Politics/International Relations) and living in Rome, Italy but returned to WI in 2012 to help in state assembly and senate campaigns.
Author of Stop Domestic Violence, Representing Battered Women Who Kill, Sourcebook on Pornography (encyclopedia against pornography), and two fiction novels (a religious thriller called The Wisdom Conspiracy and a murder mystery called St. George Slays the Dragon).
Dr. Johann has authored books since 1989. She is also an artist who designs her book covers, posters, greeting cards, and book marks. Johann promoted her books at the American Library Association Conference, Chicago, the Miami Book Fair, the Call to Action National Conference, the Midwest Criminal Justice Association Conference, the South Carolina Book Festival, the WI Dells Harvest Fest, and more.
Johann devoted her law career to authoring nationally known law books (an encyclopedia against pornography, and a defense manual for battered women who kill their abusers in self-defense) and advocating for social justice. She is not practicing law at this time. She is the former V.P. of a law firm and a former law clerk for the WI Department of Justice. Johann has been an expert witness/or consultant in homicide, rape, and other cases in Penn. (opposed the death penalty in a homicide case), IL, WI, and AZ. She trained professionals in the family violence field and presented workshops and public lectures in ND, Tenn., IL, and WI. Johann did presentations at the American Society of Criminology (Montreal, Canada, and Chicago), the Society for the Study of Social Problems (Washington, D.C.), the WI Bench and Bar Conference (Milwaukee),and other groups. Dr. Sara Johann appeared as an expert guest on the national television talk show of Sally Jessy Raphael.
Sara Johann has served as a professional telephone fundraiser for nonprofit groups, as executive director of a battered woman center, on boards of nonprofits, and as a newspaper reporter. She has many years of experience in politics and social justice causes. Her education includes a J.D. and the equivalent of an M.A. in Theology
