Chapter One

Today was the worst day of my life! Well, it started off that way.

It all began when my teacher, Mrs. Jones, saw my homework from last night. I got every answer wrong.

She asked me, "Did you pay attention to anything I said yesterday?"

I told her, "Yes!"

But honestly, I don't remember

ANYTHING!

My horrible day doesn't stop there. During reading, I found an old bubble gum wrapper in my pocket. So, I took it out and started playing with it.

Then out of nowhere, my teacher clapped her hands twice. The whole class started laughing and pointing at me.

Mrs. Jones said that she called my name five times and I did not answer. "But ... but ... Mrs. Jones, I didn't hear you."

Mrs. Jones screeched, "Steven James, I have had it! If you don't start paying attention, I'm going to have to call home."

"But ... but ... but I promise I didn't hear you," I said.

"No buts Mr. James. You better shape up and start paying attention or else!" Mrs. Jones replied.

When it was time for math, Mrs. Jones told everyone to take out their math book and a pencil. I took out my math book but I couldn't find my pencil. Everyone was writing their names on their paper ... everyone BUT me.
