About the Author

Kenyatta McKinney has participated in the sports industry for 25 years as a player, basketball coach, athletic director, event planner, and personal trainer. McKinney played high-level high school basketball, junior college, and D2 basketball. McKinney is currently entering his 4th year as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Community College of Philadelphia (CCP). Prior to McKinney coaching the CCP women’s basketball team, the team never had a winning season since becoming a national junior college in the D3 NJCAA in 2013. McKinney led the 2018-2019 & 2019-2020 CCP women’s basketball team to undefeated seasons in the Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (EPAC) winning the EPAC regular season and EPAC tournament championships (2019). The CCP women’s team ranked as high as top 10 in the NJCAA D3 schools with a record of 22 wins to 6 losses overall, 14wins to 0 EPAC, 15 wins to 1 lost in Region 19 (the team shot 44.9 Field Goal percentage, which ranked 7th “in the nation for NJCAA D3 out of 74 colleges) After having a 2 win to 22 losses season his 1st year as Head Coach, the program made one of the best 1-year turnarounds in Region 19 history wit McKinney 1st recruiting class. During 2019-2020, the CCP Women's Basketball team shot 48.7 Field Goal percentage, which ranked 2nd in the nation for D3 NJCAA junior colleges amongst 74 colleges. Coach Kenyatta won “Coach of the Year” honors for the EPAC in the 2018-2019 & 2019-2020 season. As a result of the team's success, several players earned full scholarships to 4-year schools: Cassandra Colon (Toledo University/Georgetown NAIA), Elan Wali (Southern Nazarene University), Kyirah Beckham (Virginia State University), and Andrea Bowleg (Central State University).”

Over the years, McKinney has coached at several elite high school events such as Pangos All American Camp, RBK Headliner All American Camp, and Hoopgroup Future All American Basketball Camp. Some of the players from those camps Coach McKinney coached were: Nazir Reid (NBA player), Derek Jones (NBA player & Slam Dunk Champion 2019), Markeith Mont (Millersville University), Tre Bowman (Iona University) Daron “Fatts” Russell (Rhode Island & Maryland University), Quade Green (Kentucky & Washington University), Darryl Morsell (Maryland University) and 2020-2021 freshmen leading scorer in the nation Cam Thomas (LSU/ Brooklyn Nets draftee 2021).
