About the Author

Mustafa Mahamid, Ph.D., S.E., P.E., F.SEI, F.ASCE, F.ACI, is a research associate professor at the University of Illinois-Chicago. He previously practiced as a structural engineer at GRAEF and at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. He is the editor of the forthcoming fifth edition of the Structural Engineering Handbook and the author of Cross-Laminated Timber Design.

Bungale S. Taranath, Ph.D, P.E., S.E., was a registered structural engineering in several states. A member of ASCE and ACI, he had extensive experience in the design of concrete, steel, and composite tall buildings and has published five books.
