Lucas Cameron is like every other guy his age, unless you count the whole secret-boyfriend-abusive-stepdad-terrible-friends thing he has going on. Living in a hyper-conservative, and collectively homophobic town, Lucas struggles between embracing the lure of finding love, and being outed to his family. Through all of the abuse and backstabbing, at least Lucas has Max, right? Wrong. When Max and his family decide to move out of state, Lucas is left without the one good thing in his life. He soon finds out that everything he thought was permanent is painfully temporary, and everything he thought was bad, can quickly become worse. The summer before high school, Lucas finds himself dumped, friendless, and left behind to suffer alone at his dad's for the summer. When he meets a new guy, sparks fly. Lucas embarks upon a summer like no other. It's filled with love and passion, but it's also filled with pain. Follow Lucas Cameron as he stumbles through life, trying to find his place in this world, finding that romance is not like the movies. Lucas quickly learns than one can lose their mind if they allow themselves to become lost in love.
