About the Author

Professor Chatterjee is the former Professor of Statistics at Calcutta University. He been the National Lecturer in Statistics (1985-86) of the University Grants Commission, President of the Statistics Section of the Indian Science Congress(1989), Emeritus Scientist (1997-2000) of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Editor of Calcutta Statistical Association Bulletin (1978- 92) and is currently the President of the Calcutta Statistical Association.
