Overview

Charles Paris has landed a role in a lavish West-End musical. The star, one of England's most popuar comedians, is adored by the public but despised in the business. He also seems to be behind some strange happenings backstage, including the rehearsal pianist being shot in the hand and an actor falling and breaking his leg. Why would the star want to sabotage his own show?

The playwright wants to strangle him. The leading lady longs to stab him in the back. The young Lothario looks at him with deadly rage. And unless Charles turns the spotlight on the real behind-the-scenes saboteur before opening night, murder will take top billing.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal

Once again, Charles Paris finds himself acting. Only this time he's playing two roles. Cast as Sir Charles Marlow in a West End musical, Charles's real job is to be an investigator behind the scenes. It seems that Lumpkin!, the musical, has been plagued with minor accidents, and it is to be a starring vehicle for the well-known and lovable TV comedian Christopher Milton. The show's financial investors want to be assured no more incidents will occur. As rehearsals continue, the cast find their roles diminishing as Milton takes over more and more of the show. As tempers flare and threats fill the air, the minor events intensify, and Charles's detecting skills are put to the test. Geoffrey Howard does a great job. Highly recommended for all public libraries.--Theresa Connors, Arkansas Tech Univ., Russellville Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.
