Her heroine is the very pragmatic Morgan, a mercenary supremely confident in her fighting skills, with a total abhorrence of magic. Adhémar, the king, has lost his magic; his powerful sword no longer calls to him, and the black mage has begun to wage war on the kingdom of Neroche. His youngest brother, Micah, archmage of the kingdom, suggests that Ademar's only hope is to use the Sword of Angesand, a woman's sword full of magic. Morgan ends up accompanying Micah and Adhémar on their journey, which is filled with danger, hardship, and some wonderfully humorous moments.
