So it is with Ralph Stanley II, son of perhaps the greatest bluegrass artist other than Bill Monroe. Thankfully, the younger Stanley doesn't try to shirk the mantle by crossing into pop or C&W; his third album STANLEY BLUES finds him continuing his pursuit of the classic bluegrass style. Though dad makes a couple of cameos and penned some of the songs, Ralph II can clearly handle himself, as he sounds flawlessly schooled in the bluegrass verities of honesty, emotional commitment, and technical ability.
