Srbi i Albanci žive zajedno na Balkanskom poluostrvu preko hiljadu godina. Posle dolaska Slovena u VI i VII veku, Jovan Cvijić piše u studiji Metanastazička kretanja, njihovi uzroci i posledice (1922), “Arbanasi su se povukli u planine i na arbanaško primorje, naročito južno od Skadra... I u ovako ograničenu etnografsku Arbaniju naselili su se mnogi srpski doseljenici (naročito u severnoj i srednjoj Arbaniji) za vreme duge srpske vladavine”.

Istoričar Stojan Novaković u proučavanju Prvih osnova slovenske književnosti među balkanskim Slovenima (1893) navodi “da je slovenska stihija prešla preko cele Arbanije i zaustavila se na kraju njenom. - Arbanasi su nepoznati u istorijskim spomenicima čak do XI veka; masa Slovena koja ih je okruživala, može se reći da ih je zaslonila od celog sveta”. U ranijem radu Srpske oblasti X i XI veka (1879), Stojan Novaković piše: “Što se tiče ostataka Ilira među sadašnjim stanovnicima Balkanskog poluostrva, svi su se već kritični naučnici danas u tome složili, da su poslednji trag njihov današnji Arnauti... Središte i prvo ognjište ilirskoj državi postade ravnica oko Skadarskog jezera, Drima i Bojane”.

About the Author

Nailje Malja Imami is an Associate Professor at the Department of Albanian Language and Literature, Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade. She received her PhD in 2013 on the theme "Convergence and Divergence of Case Systems in the Balkan Language Area". Her research focuses on Albanian and Balkan studies. She is the author of The Grammar of the Modern Albanian Language: Phonetics and Morphology, published in Belgrade by the NNK, and the university textbook Introduction to Albanology, published by the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade, in 2019. She was a coordinator and co-author of a research project for teaching in the Albanian language "Development of achievements standards for learning mother tongue at the end of secondary education" in 2018, at the Institute for Evaluation of Standards in Primary and Secondary Schools, and of the project "Training of employees in education" at the same institute, in 2017.
She is a reviewer at the "Enik-narik centre" within the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, and a reviewer at the publishing house "Traduki". She is a member of the editorial board of the publication ”Prevodilac” of the Association of Technical and Scientific Translators of Serbia. She has worked as a court translator since 1995. Between 1995 and 2007, she translated more than 20 school textbooks into Albanian for the Institute for Textbook Publishing and Teaching Aids. She also translates novels and other publications, including Serbs and Albanians Through Centuries, Volumes I, II, III, by Petrit Imami, published by Samizdat B92. She translated The Anthology of Balkan Poetry, Athens, HAEMUS, Friends of the Anti magazine in cooperation with the Serbian Pen Centre in 2008. / Translation of Albanian poetry 93–163 / and others. He has been working for the Ministry of Justice and other ministries of the Republic of Serbia for many years. She edited the Dictionary of the Albanian Language compiled by Kostandin Kristoforidhi (with explanations in French by Martin Camaj), published by the Publishing House "Dielli".
