Spin Doctor
Jack Abbott is a Washington spin doctor who longs to make the big time: the White House. Once there, he'll do almost anything to hold onto his job. Will the country re-elect his boss, President Dexter, a beloved widower with a secret, because of Jack's skillful deception? Will Jack's conscience finally surface and spur him to make amends? Or is it too late?
Spin Doctor has a Washington theme, a realistic story and a soul. And unlike many Washington novels, Spin Doctor is not a memoir or polemic, not a message book or a thriller. Politically neutral, it goes to deeper truths: the conflict we all have between ambition and conscience. Spin Doctor is Washington from the inside, with humor and authenticity.

About the Author

Since I do PR, MC asked me to write this. I'm Jack Abbott, the main character--or some would say hero--of Spin Doctor. So here goes. The truth is, MC has no business writing a novel. You should stick with what you know. MC does know politics, I admit that. When you start in at age twelve, riding your bike to party headquarters, have done everything-- stuff envelopes, answer phones, pass out leaflets, organize, run for class president-- and win, study politics in college. Intern in the U S Senate then get hired. Answer mail, write speeches, draft legislation, do some press, learn some policy. Learn some economics. Get a White House job. Know your way around there like the giant cockroaches in the OEOB basement. Listen to late night whispers in dim bars by Movers and Shakers. Sit in on meetings in the inmost sanctums. So politics? Sure. But a novel? Kirkus Reviews Indie gave MC a pretty good write-up, but they called Spin Doctor a thriller. It does read like one. I admit that. Pacing is pretty good. But where are the bombs or car chases? The gunfire? My life has had some drama. True. But really, I hardly think anyone will care about what it feels like to go through what I did. What it feels like to be so close to the powerful. To live in this high stakes world and see it through my eyes. As if this were not enough, there is a prequel coming soon-- Potomac Lights. I'll probably have to promote that one too, since, as you know if you read Spin Doctor, my standards are not always as high as they might be. MC says maybe one of those thrillers could be a future project. One more thing--I told MC--nobody cares about what you look like. Nobody will buy your book because of your picture. You aren't that good looking, trust me. I was just kidding, but now, as you can see, there is no author picture. I feel kind of bad about that, and I'm going to see if I can find a good one.
