Keith Landry, forced into early retirement from the U.S. Intelligence Service by the end of the Cold War, returns home to the family farm just outside Spencerville, Ohio. Things do change in 25 years, but some things stay pretty much the same. Scott Brick has many talents as a reader, and here his pace and cadence shine, allowing listeners to fully absorb DeMille’s words describing the complex personalities of three key characters: Landry himself, his high school sweetheart, and her jealous husband, once the high school bully and now the chief of police. Brick’s engaging style and expressive delivery prove to be a real bonus for DeMille’s story. T.J.M. © AudioFile 2007, Portland, Maine
