About the Author

Pierre Pratt studied graphic design at Ahuntsic College in Montreal. Since 1990, he has illustrated (and also written) close to fifty books for children. He has won several prizes, including the Governor General's Award of Canada three times, a Golden Apple and a Golden Plate in Bratislava, a Totem at the Montreuil Salon du Livre in France, a UNICEF Prize in Bologna, the Boston Globe Horn Book Award, the Elizabeth Cleaver Prize, the Mr. Christie Book Award and the TD Children's Literature Award. In 2008, he represented Canada for the prestigious Hans Christian Andersen Award.

Anne Laurel Carter is a multi-award-winning author of books for children, including Under the Prairie Sky (Orca 2004). When she's not writing, she's reading. Anne lives in Toronto where she works full-time as a teacher-librarian.

As a child, Ninon Pelletier wanted to become an astronaut in order to see the world differently. Instead, thanks to her great imagination, she became an illustrator. She studied photography and graphic design, and has illustrated over thirty children's books. She was nominated for the Governor General's Literary Award in 2016. She lives in Montreal, Quebec, surrounded by her pencils, charcoals and friends.

Isabelle Malenfant has a bachelor's degree in graphic design, but never worked in the field because she fell in love with illustration first. She likes to mix mediums such as watercolor, pastels and charcoal to create poetic and sensitive worlds. Isabelle has illustrated more than a dozen children's books, including Maggie's Chopsticks (Kids Can), which was awarded the Christie Harris Illustrated Children's Literature Prize. She was born in northern Quebec, between gold mines and lakes, in the city of Val-d'Or. Isabelle lives in Magog, Quebec, with her little family.

Carolyn Beck first learned about letters when she was five. Right away she liked them. They make interesting sounds, like the s-s-s-sneaky S, the punchy P and the bouncy B. And best of all, in bunches they make WORDS! (Carolyn also discovered numbers and liked them too, but that is another story.) Carolyn lives in Toronto, Ontario.
