PreS-K—The contradictions roll off the front cover of this board book: "cook in a book," "an interactive recipe book," and "no food required!" What follows is a list of ingredients, all food, and equipment, all common kitchen gadgets. The instructions for boiling water, cooking the spaghetti till it's al dente, then pouring off the water into a colander—all this is matter-of-fact and bestowed without any admonishment, perhaps, to include an adult in the proceedings. Who is this book for? VERDICT Ebulliently illustrated, this is a gift book for older children, not the usual board book audience.
