Overview

Is there anything more heart-breaking than to see a child in pain? Dr. Kenneth Gorfinkle has spent his career finding ways to lessen the distress of a hurting child. From teething or colic, a skinned knee or sore throat, to a broken bone or life-challenging illness, SOOTHING YOUR CHILD'S PAIN gives parents and caregivers step-by-step guidance to understand the pain a child is experiencing so they can better comfort them. The techniques vary by the age of the child and over a variety of symptoms, and each holds the promise of making a difficult situation a little better. Touch, visualization, massage, distraction and appropriate medicinal treatment all play a role in minimizing the emotional trauma for children albeit a trip to the dentist or acute illness. As the American Library Association writes, "Offering a stimulating mixture of scientific research, professional experience, and case studies, Gorfinkle's readable guide usefully collects information about and solutions to one of life's more mysterious and distressing parental experiences." Revised, updated, and with a new introduction by the author.
