About the Author

I was born and raised in the state of Michigan. My dad was a state trooper for Michigan State police. That meant we moved around Michigan every 5-7 years. If you are interested I can show you where Reed City, Battle Creek, Waterford Township, and St. Johns are on my portable Michigan map.
Upon graduation from St. Johns High School (1978), I began my college life at Concordia College, Ann Arbor (1978-1982). Here I studied to become a Lutheran pastor. I then took a year off from academia and served as a Youth Staffer (a voluntary youth worker) for the Nebraska District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. This was followed by my seminary studies at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis (1983-1988). Part of my studies was a two year vicarage in Zacapa, Guatemala. It was a life forming and transforming experience.
