This book follows the Harris family through the American Revolution and migration westward to the shores of Lake Ontario. As in the first book of the "Lineage" series, the author laid down his own family tree against events in history, as if family members of the period could have participated. Also postulated are contacts with the likes of George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, Aaron Burr, and others. Unlike the vignette format of the first book, this volume tells a cohesive story about the challenges the Harris family faced during and after the American Revolution.
Tracing a family tree back more than a couple of generations is a challenge. It takes significant research and analytic skills to debunk genealogical information that may have been passed down verbally from generation to generation. However, once a string of details start falling into place, skeletons begin emerging from unsuspected places. This series uses some of those skeletons as the basis for historical perspectives of distant relatives, some as far back as 15 generations. The author took great care to ensure that the premise of the series was fictional, even though some of the situations actually happened. In other words, a seamless blend of facts and reality.
