Slovak Proverbs and Sayings

Slovak Proverbs and Sayings was compiled by Peter P. Yurchak (Jurchak/Jurčák), an American attorney of Slovak descent who represented Slovak immigrants and coal miners in northeastern Pennsylvania, served as legal counsel for fraternal organizations in the U.S., and authored three books and several short-form publications in praise of Slovak immigrants in America.

Published by Scranton-based Obrana Press in 1947, just one year prior to Yurchak's death at the young age of 48, this book is now in the public domain. Some of the language relies on stereotypes that today's readers may find derogatory and offensive. No edits have been made in an effort to preserve the original source as historical record, serving as evidence of the time period in which this publication was created.
