FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

8 inches wide x 60 inches long (excluding fringe)


MATERIALS

• Plymouth Yarn Encore Chunky (chunky weight; 75% acrylic/ 25% wool; 143 yds/100g per ball): 2 balls beige #0240 (A); 1 ball each green/brown heather #1446 (B) and ivory #0256 (C)

• Size 11 (8mm) needles or size needed to obtain gauge

• Size K/10½ (6.5mm) crochet hook (for fringe)


GAUGE

14½ sts and 24 rows = 4 inches/10cm in pat.

To save time, take time to check gauge.


PATTERN STITCH

Note: A chart is provided for those preferring to work pat st from a chart.

Slip St Pat (multiple of 8 sts + 5)

Row 1 (RS): With B, k4, *sl 1, k3; rep from * to last 5 sts, sl 1, k4.

Row 2 and all even-numbered rows: With same color as previous row, knit all sts knitted on previous row; slip all sts slipped on previous row wyif.

Row 3: With A, [k1, sl 1] twice, *k5, sl 1, k1, sl 1; rep from * to last st, k1.

Row 5: With B, k6, *sl 1, k7; rep from * to last 7 sts, sl 1, k6.

Row 7: Rep Row 3.

Row 9: Rep Row 1.

Row 11: With A, k5, *sl 1, k1, sl 1, k5; rep from * across.

Row 13: With B, k2, *sl 1, k7; rep from * to last 3 sts, sl 1, k2.

Row 15: Rep Row 11.

Row 16: Rep Row 2.

Rep Rows 1–16 for pat.


PATTERN NOTE

Slip stitches purlwise unless otherwise stated. On right-side rows, slip stitches with yarn in the back of work; on wrong-side rows, slip stitches with yarn in front of work.


SCARF

With A, cast on 29 sts.

Knit 5 rows.

Work Rows 1–16 of Slip St Pat until piece measures approx 15 inches, ending with Row 2 or 10 in pat.

Change B to C and continue in pat until piece measures approx 45 inches, ending with a WS row.

Change C to B and continue in pat until piece measures approx 58½ inches, ending with Row 8 or 16 in pat.

Knit 6 rows.

Bind off.

Weave in ends.


FRINGE

Cut 72 13-inch strands of C. *Fold 6 strands in half. With RS facing and beg at corner of 1 end, use crochet hook to draw folded end from RS to WS. Pull loose ends through folded section. Draw up knot firmly. Rep from * 6 times on each end; spacing them evenly. Trim even.
