The number of children in the United States living in single-parent homes is steadily climbing. From 1975 to today, the figure has more than doubled. Currently, of the over 60 million children under age 18, about 25% live in single-parent homes. More than 50% of America's African-American children, 25% of its Hispanic children and 15% of its white children live with only one parent. In about 90% of all single-parent homes, the parent is the mother.
