The book also explores the medicolegal aspects of forensics and discusses relevant laws and regulations from the England and Wales jurisdictions. The first edition, published in 1947, has been directed predominately at a medical readership. With the numerous changes and expansion in the forensics discipline over time, the new editions have been updated to not only reflect these changes and advances but to also highlight how forensic medicine relates to other specialties.
Purpose: The book achieves its goal of providing a solid introduction and background to forensic medicine. It covers diverse topics that a forensic pathologist encounters on a daily basis. At the same time, it is superbly comprehensive in its inclusion of subjects that every forensic pathologist should be familiar with, such as the ethics of medical practice, the medicolegal aspects of death, as well as principles of crime scene investigation.
