Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930) was, like his creation John Watson, both a writer and a medical doctor. Born in Edinburgh in Scotland, he began writing short stories while studying medicine. Relentlessly curious about a vast range of subjects, his interests were reflected in the vast array of knowledge that Sherlock Holmes exhibited in his stories.

Alex Woolf is a published author of over eighty books of fiction and non fiction, mainly for children and young adults. He lives in North London, England.
