An estranged child born with an addiction suffered from meningitis. But, somehow holds onto life by the grace of God. Overcoming childhood abuse wasn’t easy for Ray. A school life that is punctuated by everyday violence does nothing to help the already strained family ties and the sense of loss at the passing of loved ones. While the memories of his past remain unresolved, negative thoughts lead to a life as a recluse.

Hiding shocking secrets of his past hidden deep within him, he struggles to cope with whom he is and finds it almost impossible to find the peace he so desperately needs. Surviving five suicide attempts as he experienced a feeling of detachment from reality. Eventually, he became addicted to the “buzzed feeling” that alcohol gave him, relying on the addiction for 18-years to numb his emotional pain hindered his progress.

A brush with the law resulted in a three-year probation sentence. But somehow, through everything, he finds an inner strength he never knew existed and discovers a way to keep pushing through life despite the obstacles he faces, and the heartbreak that nearly led to self-destruction. But, overcoming his dark past wasn’t easy.

About the Author

Ray Merrill, author of the new book Shattered Memories: Addicted, wrote this book (his first) in 2018. He completed the entire manuscript in five months and hasn’t stopped writing since. Mr. Merrill is writing his new book, “His Secret Life: Breach of Trust.” He is 39 years old and a member of the United Lumbee Nation Indian tribe. He has achieved many awards for outstanding caregiver training. He’ll soon be releasing his fiction series in 2019. He lives in Longview, Washington, with his girlfriend Samantha & stepdaughter Nevaeh. He enjoys spending time with his family. His hobbies include playing piano and guitar, and something sparked his passion for art at the early age of 12. He’s obsessed with doing his absolute best at whatever he does.
