About the Author

Huey Pierce Long was born in Winnefield, Louisiana in 1893. Born into a poor family in Louisiana, this larger than life personality spent his career championing the rights of the common people of America against the economic elite which ruled then and now. After a stint as a traveling salesman, Long became a lawyer in 1915, specializing in workman's compensation cases. Long served on the Louisiana Railroad Commission before becoming Governor in 1928 and a U.S. Senator in 1932. In office he represented the American progressive tradition through his policies. He tragically assassinated at the Louisiana state capitol in 1935.
