Shadow Followers
After the untimely death of his father, Jacob and his mother, Sarah, left the city to live with his Grandpa Ezra near the rural town of Carthage Falls. Living in a world completely unfamiliar to him, he begins having strange supernatural experiences. An old woman comes to him in a dream foretelling a cryptic destiny filled with haunting shadows, all the while, calling him the “Son of Thunder!”
Attempting to forget his dream, Jacob sets out to find the perfect tree for the perfect tree house, and discovers three new friends; Deek, Michael, and Michael’s older sister Carly; who quickly becomes his closest confidant. They spend their carefree summer days building their treetop hideaway, and cooling off in Teller’s pond. That is, until they discover something seriously creepy floating beneath the surface, leaving the small rural community with a mystery of alarming proportions.
Things continue to digress as the shadows from Jacob’s haunting dreams pursue him into his reality. Just as he realizes that he has no hope of escaping, a stranger appears who looks a lot like a migrant worker and rescues him, and then disappears.
A few days later, another body is discovered, with more ancient symbols carved into the skin. And Jacob along with Carly and the others feel compelled to find the strange migrant worker that saved Jacob; sensing that he is somehow connected to everything that is happening.
Local fears are elevated when Gus, the custodian, discovers a group of local teens sacrificially murdered at the high school. The sheriff enlists the assistance of Doc, an anthropologist from the nearby University, attempting to make sense of the odd symbols carved into teens' bodies. Doc reveals to him that they are dealing with an ancient cult that has resurfaced.
The Shadow Followers begin to suspect that Jacob is the one they have looking for, for so long, and one by one they abduct those who are most dear to him and Carly.
