The electrostatic energy blast exploded across the wall of the building and left a large crevice in the smooth, polished granite surface, right next to the howler. The fleeing creature looked at the result of the misplaced shot and grinned nastily. Smoke from the burn began to irritate its nostrils, and it wrinkled its flat nose at the smoldering hole and glowered back at the two law enforcement agents in pursuit.

The beast howled into the night, opening its maw wide to expose a mouthful of razor-sharp teeth."
