Selim's story is based on a true story... my story. You can tell from the pictures that I had a modest childhood. Modest is a nice way of saying we were poor, but poor only means we didn't have many nice things. Wow, I've never written that out loud before... but it's true.
We lived in a humble, third-story walkup apartment with creaky wooden stairs-- it was home. If not for Mrs. George at P.S. 161 in Brooklyn, I would never have learned to play the violin.
I can honestly say, I've played my violin all my life, all over the world. I still play it. It's a part of me!
I've played with some of the most amazing musicians. I've even recorded my violin professionally. Now, It's my chance to turn your kids on to the violin-- the way Mrs. George did for me! And it's your chance to do what my mom did... it'll change your child's life forever! They don't have to become a professional musician to be enriched by the experience of learning something so beautiful. Doctors, lawyers, engineers, and college professors have shared their stories with me of playing the violin when they were kids. Maybe your child will enjoy the experience just as much. Best of luck!
