Selected Works for Cello and Piano
"These early editions of Franchomme's works provide cellists with valuable literature, often long out of print, and reveal stylistic particularities of French cellistic performance style." — MusicWeb-international.com
The most renowned cellist in 19th century France, Auguste Franchomme (1808–1884) was the chamber music partner and dear friend of Chopin, Solo Cellist of the Musique du Roi, Principal cellist of both the Conservatory's Concert Society orchestra and the Théâtre-Italien opera orchestra, cellist of the influential Alard-Franchomme Chamber Music Society, and a professor at the Paris Conservatory. He was also an exceptional composer in his own right who wrote dozens of original works, which he often performed.
Edited by celebrated cellist Louise Dubin, this unique compilation includes a fascinating essay on the composer's life and work. All of the cello and piano compositions chosen for this volume have been out of print for over a century. They are effective in performance, and they span all periods of Franchomme's composing career. The piano parts are easy, and the cello parts range from medium difficulty to challenging. Reproduced from their original first printings, this practice and performance edition is an essential addition to the collections of amateur and professional cellists.
