Secrets Behind the Door
Shivering, Molly Montgomery peers through the branches of her secret place, watching as the lamp in her bedroom window flickers on, then off. Seconds later, a fluorescent glow appears through slatted shutters of the adjacent room. Five-year-old Molly shudders. Only she can interpret the signal. Jeremy, her older brother, is on the hunt. She is his prey.

Secrets Behind the Door exposes the truth of sexual abuse, bringing the problem into focus through a family living in an affluent Chicago suburb. Real-estate maven Babs Montgomery heads the household—a role happily abdicated by her husband, Jameson. Their daughters barely register on their radar. Most-favored status goes to Jeremy, whose parents are blind to his faults—even when they stare at them in the form of purple bruises on Molly’s arm.

Shamed by the experience that forces her into an emotional deep freeze, Molly stays silent. People are dangerous. Isolation is safe.

Only one person breaks through her armor: Kate Johnson, a whimsical redhead who becomes Molly’s lifelong friend. Through Kate and her family, Molly experiences her initial encounters with the living God and begins a healing journey that transforms her life.

About the Author

Marti Wibbels is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with the State of Florida and a Board Certified Professional Christian Counselor with the Board of Christian Professional & Pastoral Counselors.

In addition to a counseling Master of Science degree, she has completed extensive additional training for therapeutic work with adults, adolescents and children. Competent in helping adults at all stages of life, Marti is also experienced in helping children and adolescents with varied concerns.

Specializing in helping individuals recover from sexual abuse, Marti wrote the workbook, "Core Healing from Sexual Abuse: a Journey of Hope."

Core Healing from Sexual Abuse (available in English and Spanish) is a therapeutic method integrating Scripture that can be used by individuals for their personal healing journeys; it can also be implemented as part of individual or group therapy. Therapists, lay counselors and pastors can increase their people-helping skills for survivors of sexual abuse by understanding and sharing Core Healing from Sexual Abuse.

Marti also counsels couples, helping them build communication and relational skills. She and her husband Alan are certified in Prepare-Enrich and have facilitated marriage seminars throughout the United States and internationally. They co-authored the workbook "Relationships Pure and Simple," for high school and college students and single adults pursuing positive premarital relationships.

In her therapeutic work, Marti incorporates diverse counseling techniques, from cognitive behavioral to solution focused.
