Description: This book has a long history of use in clinical pediatric medicine and still uses a pragmatic approach to assessment and differential diagnosis in the management of pediatric illnesses updated to modern pediatric medicine. This fourth edition has a new editor, Dr. Joseph Zorc.
Purpose: It may be used at the bedside to provide a concise pragmatic approach to the assessment and differential diagnosis management of common pediatric illnesses. It has a long and storied history of clinical use and this edition certainly continues to meet these objectives.
Audience: This will be of interest to pediatricians of all disciplines as well as ancillary pediatric personnel in nursing, therapy, and the laboratory. It is also an excellent reference for residents and students.
Features: The book remains unique, with its initial section on history and physical developmental surveillance, developmental disabilities, immunizations, feeding, and the newborn. The second section, which takes up the majority of the book, covers clinical problems such as cough, cyanosis, edema, fever, etc. The last section includes toxicology, the cardiology laboratory, and a surgical and syndrome glossary.
Assessment: This fourth edition continues the excellent tradition of providing a small book that can be used for clinical care at the bedside. It is an excellent addition to any pediatrician's library.
