She glared at him in disbelief. "I wouldn't have to follow you if you didn't keep secrets, Tomas."

Scarlett ducked as his hand slammed into the wood beside her head. He pointed a finger at her and spoke through clenched teeth and Scarlett cowered at the coldness in his eyes.

"Don't play on me, woman. You know damn well you shouldn't have been there. Right?"

Scarlett did not respond.

"Right!"

Tomas screamed this and Scarlett flinched and blinked back tears.

"Tomas --"

"Shut up!"

Scarlett closed her mouth though she wanted to calm him, and she again regretted her decision to follow him. Slowly, she raised her hands and rested them lightly on his shoulders. When he didn't push her away, she moved in closer and stood on the tips of her toes to place a warm kiss at the base of his throat and he reached up and entwined his fingers in her hair.

"I'm so sorry, Tomas." He looked into her eyes and she pleaded with him. "I will never do that again."

He suddenly yanked her from the door by her hair and roughly shoved her toward the stairs. "It's not going to be that easy, Scarlett."

"Tomas, please don't hit me."

"I can't believe you followed me. When I'm done with you, you're going to wish you stayed home with our son like a good wife."

Scarlett screamed and kicked at him to no avail, and he stared her directly in the eyes as he grabbed her by the collar of her dress and ripped it clear down the center...
