About the Author

Sarah was born in Yorkshire in a small village called Delph on the edge of the Yorkshire Moors. She has very strong family ties and has a loving mother and father and three brothers whom she is very close to. She studied at Saddleworth School and went on to Oldham Tech, Southport Tech and Manchester University where she studied Fashion&Textiles. Sarah also attended Oldham Theatre Workshop during most of her younger and teenage life and featured in many stage productions and later went into television. Known industry-wide as the real life Lara Croft, Sarah Donohue is the international offshore powerboat multi-champion that literally lives life on the edge. The TV presenter, journalist, world fitness champion and motivational speaker has suffered a number of serious injuries due to her 'no holds barred' lifestyle and she even died for four minutes after a near fatal racing crash, which Sarah saw as only a minor setback! She continues to compete in one of the world's most dangerous sports, powerboat racing, and was given the nickname 'The Queen of the Seas' by the British Armed Forces during her time as a forces pin-up. In 2018 she was chosen as the Ambassador for the Asia Race Series and is a regular at events in Hong Kong working alongside owner Martin Lai her former team mate. As well as winning a series of awards, including the APBA One-Design National Powerboat title in the USA and the European Championships, Sarah was also recruited as the lead stunt double in Bond movie, The World is Not Enough. Sarah was also asked to double for Angelina Jolie in Hollywood blockbuster The Tourist as well as having doubled for other 'A' listers such as Pamela Anderson and has worked with legends such as Robert Carlyle, Pierce Brosnan and John Cleese to name just a few. She also holds the Lady of the Lake speed record title achieved on Lake Windermere and is officially the longest standing and most successful female powerboat racer in the world and was nominated as a 'Woman of Achievement' at the world famous ladies luncheon 'Woman of the Year' in London in 2014. When on dry land, Sarah is a fitness champion and has won the World Fitness title twice during four day long events in the USA which saw her compete in track and field, an assault course and bikini stage rounds. Following a powerboat accident in 2000 in Italy and despite the fact that her face was so damaged that she couldn't eat solids for six months, Sarah began training with Parachute Regiment PTI Mark Jarvis, her best friend and the former official trainer for One Direction, Keira Knightly and Christian Slater and it was during rehabilitation Mark discovered her talent as a strength and endurance athlete. Sarah has also had a long and glittering presenting career, hosting a series of her own extreme sports shows travelling the world for Granada Sky Broadcasting's Men and Motors Channel. Sarah's other roles include co-presenting H2O with Nick Knowles and Simon Vigar (now royal correspondent for CH5 News), appearing on They Think It's All Over with Jonathan Ross, presenting a TV show at Daytona Raceway, a fitness expert on the Trisha Goddard Show and presenting the British Nautical Awards with Nigel Mansell, to name just a few. Several channels have made documentaries about Sarah's life including BBC1's 999, Channel 4, and Americas 'Ripley's believe it or Not.' She was also featured in America's National Enquirer. She continues to race and will racing across the USA for Reindl Powerboats based out of Las Vegas.

Chapter 14 – Appearances can be deceiving

‘One of the most vitriolic abusers was married to a met police officer.’

I was being taken to court by one of the world’s most powerful men. Yet my issues with Donald Trump’s corporation were irrelevances compared to a group of keyboard warriors getting together on social media.

Social media has flattened hierarchy and empowered faceless people to offer opinion in debates. This is amazing and truly a step forward for the littler person to have a voice. Yet social media can also be used to form alliances far stronger than one powerful entity - people using numbers to push an agenda, this truly is democratic yet it can be abused. People may jump on bandwagons just to feel part of something they don’t really understand or join just because their social media friends do. In certain circumstances, people band together not to discuss or debate but to form kangaroo courts to publicly bully and destroy people whether they deserve it or not

When we see a victim of bullying, it’s easy to see them having a weakness of sorts; someone easily manipulated who can easily be dominated. We may think of children or teenagers or people who stand out from the crowd - the low achievers, those with body issues, the poor, the nerdy geek or others with poor social skills. Someone who stands out from the crowd for whatever reason but someone whom others deem to have a personality ‘flaw’.
