About the Author

Karen L. Rogers is a native of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and an educator. She attended South Carolina State University, where she studied Business Administration and English. Karen later received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication - Journalism from the University of South Carolina - Upstate. She also graduated from the University of the Southwest and received two Master of Science degrees in Education.

Karen is married to Dwight, and they have three children and six grandchildren. Karen is a member of Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc.

Karen enjoys writing, genealogy, and music. She started writing at an early age, and in junior high school, Karen worked on the school newspaper, Wildcat Chat. In 2008, she wrote, “Survival in the Cannons Campground Area” printed in the Spartanburg Today, August 2008 edition and “The Thomas and Melivna Watts Ray Family of the Upstate” published in the Upper South Carolina Genealogy & History, November 2008, Vol. XXI, No. 4 edition. Both articles highlighted the life and history of her father’s family in the Spartanburg County area. She is also featured in “From Mississippi to Africa, second edition,” written by pro-genealogist Melvin Collier.
