Overview

Stories from a long past era that will transport you back to a simpler time. This is not just a collection of surf stories, but a candid and true account of events of decades past. Events and adventures no longer possible, due to the over population of the planet. Read excerpts from Gene's early years through to the present. Long before 'Gidget went Hawaiian"in the Movies, introducing surfing to the masses, in Santa Cruz California, there already existed a dedicated vanguard of intrepid Ocean Lovers gathering on Cowells Beach.
One of the first to ride the Foam Cored Surfboards, Gene's exciting, and often wild, youth relived with you on these pages. One of surfing legends, Gene recounts his experiences in Hawaii and Australia that will shock you and get you laughing. This modern classic should not be missed!

About the Author

A native Californian from Santa Cruz, my early years were spent roaming around the Beach, the Pier, and all around town. With very few restrictions from my parents and with my first car, I began to roam northern and southern California; I am one of the first surfers to ride the Foam Core Surfboards in December of 1964, two months after turning eighteen. I moved to Honolulu in January 1966 to live and work. In 1967, the Vietnam War was getting worse; I went home to Santa Cruz.
I met and married my wife in 1969. Several years later, we immigrated to Australia with our two-year-old son, staying 18 years and being naturalized as citizens. Our second son was born in Western Australia. Many of the stories in this book are about those years of discovering new surf breaks and adventures. Eventually, wanting to live in America again, we moved to our permanent home on Kauai. We began riding Harley Davidson motorcycles. That’s the simple version; don’t miss the rest!
The end of an era…those were the days, my friends.
