About the Author

Originally from Los Angles, California, Tamara grew up in Gardena, a city located in the South Bay region of L.A., surrounded by a large extended family and close-knit neighbors. She moved to New York with her parents and two siblings for a period of time, before returning to the West Coast to commence her undergraduate career at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. While studying abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina, she volunteered at Hospital De Los Niños, which spawned her love for working with children. After graduating with a joint degree in Spanish and International Studies, Tamara joined Teach For America and worked as a sixth grade Magnet school teacher in a challenging Los Angeles neighborhood. She currently lives with her husband and resides outside of Washington, D.C., still teaching children, and enjoys writing stories and poetry.
