The simplest way to go is a laminated fold-out called San Francisco Birds: An Introduction to Familiar Bay Area Species by James Kavanagh. Totally rudimentary, this book gives only a habitat category and a color photograph, but it includes all 10 of our birds, plus many more, and is easy to carry.
