About the Author

Sabine Lippert was a physician who transformed her passion for beading into a full-time profession as an internationally popular teacher and designer. She teaches workshops in Germany, England, and the United States, as well as at Creativa (a huge German trade show), and is a Swarovski Ambassador. In 2012, Sabine published her first English-language book with Lark, Sabine Lippert's Beaded Fantasies. She maintains a popular blog (trytobead.com) on which she posts images of new beaded jewelry designs almost daily, and has a very active Facebook presence. Sabine lives in Bonn, Germany.

German jewelry designer Lippert (Sabine Lippert's Beaded Fantasies) takes two basic beadwork stitches—right-angle weave and peyote stitch—and transforms them into extraordinary jewelry in this collection of intermediate-to-advanced designs. A common element is the use of multiple sizes and styles of bead in one piece, which creates tremendous visual interest. Included are necklaces, bracelets, and earrings in varying arrangements, ranging from showy statement pieces and more subtle jewelry suitable for everyday wear. Many of the components of the designs can be applied to original designs as well, giving beaders a variety of new options for their own work. Diagrams are provided for key steps, and knowledge of right-angle weave and peyote stitch is assumed, although the author provides ample guidance for her more unusual techniques. VERDICT Lippert's inventive, beyond-the-basics designs are best for intermediate-to-advanced jewelry makers—an audience that is sadly ignored in books on the craft.
