A puppy named Rooster gets separated from his mother and siblings and has to make his way through woods, unfriendly yards, and lonely nights in search of a place to call home. Along the way he's poked by turkeys, fed by a cat, and chased by a broom, all the while crying for his mother and hoping to be rescued. A policeman finds him, afraid and hiding, on the side of a road. Follow rooster on his journey froma box in a shed to a home in a log cabin.

About the Author

Melissa has been writing since childhood, prompted to do so by her grandmother who encouraged creative activities. During high school, Melissa was nominated for and then attended the Connecticut Writer's Symposium for high school students aspiring to be authors. In college, she founded the Nichol's College literary magazine, Windfall, and was its editor, as well as a contributing author, for three years. Since college, she's engaged with authors and students at various creative writing programs, symposiums, and conferences hosted by Lesley University in Cambridge, MA, Grub Street's Muse & Marketplace in Boston, MA, and other venues. Melissa enjoys entertaining young children with lively stories that help them understand life and provide building blocks for morals and good habits. She created Rooster's Tales and Rooster's Playtime both featuring a little puppy named Rooster determined to help kids learn with his puppy antics and games. In addition to children's books, Melissa also has a passion for history, a likeness for fantasy, and an interest in mythology. She's using these talents to create chapter books and novels with unique settings and storylines to engage older children and adults in the excitement of reading, living, and learning.
