Dale Brown is the New York Times bestselling author of numerous books, from Flight of the Old Dog (1987) to, most recently, Eagle Station (2020). A former U.S. Air Force captain, he can often be found flying his own plane in the skies of the United States. He lives near Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

When Kurdish terrorists attack Turkey using Iraqi territory as a haven, the Turkish military follows precedent set by the U.S. itself in attacking terrorist bases, which brings them into contact with U.S. forces. While the current president attempts to cool tensions, Scion takes action that not only strains relations between NATO allies but also reveals the company's possession of a technological superiority that poses a destabilizing threat to the region. In this action-filled 15th entry in Brown's (www.megafortress.com) Patrick McClanahan series—following Shadow Command (2008), also available from Recorded Books—the retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant-general is working for a private contractor with the mission of patrolling the skies in northern Iraq. The narration by William Dufris, who's read previous works in the series, is a bit overdramatic, and his dialog and accents are sometimes clichéd, but Brown devotees will enjoy this production. Brown's latest political thriller seems ripped from the headlines upon first glance. When a new president takes charge of the volatile situation in Iraq, his predecessor becomes heavily involved in the world of military contracting, specifically a company called Scion, a fictional version of Dick Cheney's Halliburton. Of course, the situation escalates to catastrophic proportions when Turkey is drawn into the conflict through the actions of Kurdish terrorists. As interesting as the story is, narrator William Dufris makes little attempt to up the ante with a colorful performance.
