For Steve Chase, being a Quaker has always meant being called to serve in a nonviolent revolution to bring about that beloved community which "embodies respect and care for the community of life, ecological integrity, social and economic justice, democracy, nonviolence, and peace." About the Author

Steve Chase assumed the position of director of education at Pendle Hill in 2014 after twelve years as the founding director of Antioch University’s Environmental Studies program in Advocacy for Social Justice and Sustainability. Before that, he served as a member of a worker-owned printing cooperative, then as an editor and business manager for South End Press, a worker-managed, nonprofit book publisher serving progressive social movements. Over the years, he has also worked as a union shop steward and as a community activist. In all these efforts, Steve has sought to answer the spiritual call he first experienced as a teenager in the Religious Society of Friends—to promote what Martin Luther King called “the beloved community.”

Steve is the author of the book Letters To A Fellow Seeker: A Short Introduction To The Quaker Way, and co-author of the book Building Beloved Communities: A Transition Town Primer for People of Faith. His articles on prophetic activism and spiritual life have been published by Friends Journal, Quaker Life, Western Friend, Quaker Earthcare Witness, and Sojourners.

The roots of this particular pamphlet go back to a talk Steve gave at the 2012 Pendle Hill Young Adult Friends Conference on “Continuing Revelation,” a theme he later developed for the 2013 Stephen G. Cary Memorial Lecture at Pendle Hill, which was entitled “Revelation and Revolution: Quaker Activism as a Path Toward Faithfulness.”
