Overview

Murder. Betrayal. Adventure. A Score That Must Be Settled. A tale of twists and turns following the most unlikely of female leads. ‘How do you know my name?’ I asked… ‘We will come to that,’ he said. ‘Do you think they meant to kill him?’ War between Britain, France and Spain forms the backdrop to Beverley Elphick’s much-anticipated second novel, Retribution. Our heroine Esther Coad is looking forward at last to starting a normal family life; but with the town under threat, and plagued by shadows from the past, can Esther reach her longed for happy ever after? This is the second instalment of Beverley Elphick’s trilogy set in the eighteenth century when smuggling is rife and a strong female voice rarely heard. At the heart of the story is family; not always the one you are born with, but the one you carve out for yourself.

About the Author

Beverley Elphick is an historical fiction author. She sees herself as a storyteller bringing life to compelling characters and dramatic storylines. Her trilogy of books is set in the town of Lewes in East Sussex, UK. A town known, even today, for its rebellious characteristics – with an unofficial motto of ‘We won’t be druv.’ In the first of the trilogy Lewes becomes home to her unlikely female protagonist, Esther Coad. Beverley’s books have received starred reviews from various critics and publications. She is passionate about taking her readers on an exciting adventure: from smuggling and betrayal to kidnappings, weddings, and murder - it is all in there. Her characters are real, intriguing, and unexpected; Much of what she writes is validated by historical research drawn from the eighteenth century and the local newspapers of the period. She loves writing and is keen to get more people to pick up a book and get excited about literature. Beverley is a mother of two and grandmother of four, having lived her life in and around the Lewes area. She is quietly active on behalf of environmental causes having worked for a number of years as a volunteer in a local wildlife hospital which generated a passion for hedgehogs, bee conservation, nature and preserving British wildlife in all its forms. The third and final instalment of her historical adventure will be published in early 2021.
